This mobility-friendly nature trail is part of the Local Places for Nature project undertaken by Open Newtown in collaboration with Powys County Council.

The 400-meter accessible trail will wind through meadow areas along the picturesque River Severn, allowing locals and visitors to enjoy the beauty of the park.

A new seating area will also be installed for those looking to take a break and soak in the surroundings.

What sets this project apart is the use of low-impact materials for the construction of the pathway. Instead of concrete or tarmac, a green free-draining pathway will be laid to minimize the impact on the environment and preserve the natural beauty of the park. The project includes biodiversity-focused improvements such as bug hotels and bird boxes created by local schools and volunteer groups.

An event in partnership with the Eden Project was recently held to 'Create a Buzz' by distributing seed bombs across flower beds and green spaces in the town. To educate visitors about the wildlife in the area, new information boards will be installed later in the year.

These boards will highlight the flora and fauna that call Dolerw Park home and the efforts being made to support their thriving.

Construction on the pathway is set to begin after the 13th of May and is expected to take up to three weeks to complete.

For any inquiries about the project, Open Newtown invites you to contact them at [email protected].
