Here is a look at Paul Sawtell who is standing as a Welsh Conservatives candidate in Newtown Central and South in the upcoming 2022 local elections.
During the 2022 local elections, I am asking the same three questions to every candidate in order to inform your decision making on the 5th May 2022. The answers to the questions are not edited and are a direct copy of the replies given.
1.What made you stand to be a county councillor?
I have for many years now been keen on public service. Among other such roles, I was a community councillor in the area for 4 years and am now looking to ratchet this up a notch. Standing as a county councillor is an ideal way to further this, and while I do not consider myself to be a politician as such (I have been a professional in the music business for 45 years) wanting to do my best to make peoples’ lives better is a strong motivation for me.
2. What are your top 3 priorities if elected?
It would be easy to regurgitate popular topics in answer to this, but giving the question more thought I would say that my overarching priorities would be to make myself as available as possible to listen and learn from residents; to be the determined person that I am on their behalf and to be honest with residents. There is only so much any councillor can do by him or herself, but with a community in harness with residents’ wishes much more can be achieved. Safer streets, tidier neighbourhoods and less crime and anti-social behaviour, for instance. I would also do my best to preserve the positives in Newtown such as our many local and vibrant shops and businesses, which I feel offer something remarkable.
3. Why should the voters in Newtown Central and South elect you?
Because I am an honest person, I do not easily take ‘no’ for an answer and always get my
teeth firmly into whatever I do; and my wife says that! So she must be right….
