Newtown High School celebrated a successful return to A Level exam results, for the first time since 2019.

Outstanding results from students include Emily Bleakley (three As and one B) who intends to go on to Aberystwyth University to study Education and History, Megan Costall (one A* and four As) who will go on to the University of Birmingham to study Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, Dylan Downs (one A*, two As) who intends to take a gap year, Katy Hill (two As and two Bs) who has been offered a place at Cardiff University to study Biomedical Sciences, Iwan Mills (three As) who will go on to Oxford Brookes University to study Motorsport Engineering and Keera Sevier (one A*, one A and one B) who will be taking a gap year.

Rob Edwards, Headteacher said:

“After three very difficult school years for year 13, I am pleased to see such a strong set of results. The students have worked extremely hard during some very challenging conditions.”

"It was a pleasure to see the students collecting their results, and achieving some outstanding grades. Our staff have been incredible in adapting and supporting the students during these challenges, and I would like to personally thank them for their hard work and efforts.”

Across Powys the results are similar with many students getting top grades.

Cllr Pete Roberts, Cabinet Member for a Learning Powys, said:

"We would like to congratulate all our learners who have received their results today.

"We're extremely proud of the achievements of all out learners and are delighted to hear the stories of their success.

"We recognise the challenges faced by both learners and schools, including the transition back to examinations for the first time in three years.

"We want to thank the schools who have supported their learners through their exams but also thank the families who have played a vital role in supporting and encouraging their children throughout their education.

"We wish all our learners all the best for their next chapter."
