A Newtown resident walked out of Welshpool Magistrates’ Court after he was ordered to pay compensation to his victims for a late night assault.

Daniel Jones assaulted three individuals on New Year’s Day, 2022, but denied the assaults until his trial, when he changed his plea to guilty.

Jones argued he acted in excessive self-defence.

Prosecutors said Jones started a fight with one of his victims and punched him before turning his aggression towards Ms Morris-Kirkham.

Jones then fled the courtroom when ordered to pay £150 compensation to Ms Morris-Kirkham and £100 each to Mr Poole and Mr Robertson, before being made subject to an 18-month community order and being required to pay £300 costs.
