Town Councillors have supported plans to expand a local business in the town centre.

At their meeting on the 6th March 2023, the Economy & Environment Committee of the town council voted in support of a planning application to expand "No. 1 High Street".

The proposal involves the enlarageemnt of No. 1 High Street into the adjoining, now closed, No. 2 which was a popular butchers for over 100 years. The proposal would also see the creation of a new party wall and construction of new access ramp and door for No. 2.

The planning application will now be determined by Powys County Council.

If approved, the expansion project will provide a boost to the local economy, create new jobs, and further strengthen the business community in Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn.
