Open Newtown has written to town councillors to request support, promotion and potential financial sponsorship for a new event next May to go alongside the inaugural Newtown 10k event.

Potentially 1,000 runners could be embarking on Newtown and Open Newtown suggests this would be a great day to capitalise on this attraction with a fun day.

The letter which sets out some of the ideas for the event such as knockout style competitions, inflatable assault courses, tug of war and more is set to revive the Pryce Jones 'Sports Day' of a bygone era.

Open Newtown confirmed that they will take the lead in organising the event, donating staff time and physical resources but are seeking sponsorship from local businesses to help meet the costs of the event. They are also hoping that the town council will donate funds to 'cover some/all of the burden of this hire'.

The letter will be considered by the Economy & Environment Committee on the 5th December 2022.
