In a recent ceremony hosted by the Mid and West Wales Regional Safeguarding Board, two exceptional members of Powys County Council staff were honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their tireless work in protecting children at risk.

Among the distinguished recipients, Sharon Titley, received high commendation in the Co-production in Safeguarding category for her pivotal role as a Commissioning and Project Officer.

The Long Service/Lifetime Achievement Awards were bestowed upon Claire Williams, Practice Learning and Development Officer, and Andrea Roberts, Independent Reviewing Officer, both of whom have made significant contributions to safeguarding over their extensive careers. Claire, with almost three decades of experience in social care, including more than 20 years as a qualified social worker, was recognized for her unwavering commitment to supporting individuals in need and her dedication to upholding the highest standards within the council. Andrea, on the other hand, has been a leading proponent of the Signs of Safety approach in safeguarding Powys children. Her emphasis on collaboration, risk management, and encouraging open dialogue with affected children has proven instrumental in ensuring their well-being. Moreover, Andrea has shown unwavering support for children in care and has continually sought innovative methods to foster effective communication with those she serves.

Sharon Titley, received well-deserved recognition as she was highly commended in the Co-production in Safeguarding category. Sharon played a crucial role in establishing a board that empowers young people aged 11-17 in Powys to voice their opinions on new health and social care initiatives. Her leadership in implementing a new planning tool aimed at delivering improved mental health, well-being, and support services further highlights her dedication to the community.

The Junior Regional Safeguarding Board, which includes young individuals from Powys, was also honored with a Special Recognition Award. Their outstanding work on a powerful animated project, now incorporated into safeguarding training, garnered praise for its profound impact.

Cllr Sandra Davies, Powys County Council's Cabinet Member for Future Generations, expressed her admiration for the accomplishments of the Social Services staff, emphasizing the significance of their recognition by safeguarding colleagues across Mid and West Wales. She commended their unwavering efforts and commitment to protecting children from harm, acknowledging their deserving recognition.

Cllr Siân Cox, Cabinet Member for a Caring Powys added: "For most social workers, quietly helping people to live the lives they want to live is the main reward for work that is often exceptionally challenging. I was delighted to watch these dedicated women be recognised and celebrated publicly. We are privileged to count them among our own in Powys Social Services."
