In a move to address long-standing parking issues and ease congestion on Broad Street, Powys County Council has taken action by installing closer together bollards outside the popular Spar store. Bollards have also been added to the junction with Wesley Street. The new measures aim to regulate parking in the area and create a smoother traffic flow, benefiting both motorists and pedestrians.

The measures were introduced in a traffic regulation order which was consulted upon between December 2022 and January 2023. The traffic regulation order, which makes widespread changes to parking and waiting limits across Newtown and aims to help deal with 'inconsiderate and obstructive parking'.

Other measures to be introduced include new prohibitions of waiting at all times on sections of U4258 School Lane; C2011 Llanfair Road; and C2087 High Street; new no stopping on school entrance markings prohibition between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday on sections of U4258 School Lane; introduce new restrictions of goods vehicles loading only between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday on sections of C2087 High Street; U4250 Severn Street; and B4568 Shortbridge Street and more.
