Newtown residents are invited to join a community conversation on the topic of growing and sharing local good food at the upcoming Climate Conversation event.
Taking place on Wednesday, January 17th, 2024, at Hafan yr Afon, this event aims to promote support for and accessibility to locally-sourced food in the area.
The event, which is free for all ages, will highlight the contributions of Newtown and the surrounding areas in fostering a thriving local food industry. Local food growers, producers, and sharing projects will be showcased, including Ash & Elm Horticulture, Newtown Food Surplus, Cultivate, and Newtown Community Cafe.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from these inspirational projects and collaborate with like-minded individuals to further develop the local food scene. In line with the Welsh Government's commitment to sustainability, the Climate Conversation event aims to gather ideas and promote discussion on a new 'Just Transition Framework'. This framework will explore the concept of fairness within the context of climate change.
Attendees are encouraged to share their dreams and aspirations for the future of local food production, waste reduction, and food access in North Powys.
The event will feature various interactive sessions, beginning with presentations from local growers and sharers. Attendees will have the chance to learn from their experiences and gain valuable insights.
Following this, a World Cafe discussion will be held, providing a platform for attendees to express their thoughts, collaborate, and find potential partners and outlets for their own food-related projects. A key highlight of the event will be the opportunity to enjoy local food while networking with fellow attendees. Gluten-free and vegan options will be available to cater to various dietary preferences.
Attendees are encouraged to register through this link, as this will help organizers estimate catering requirements.
Children are warmly welcomed to participate in the World Cafe discussion. However, if they prefer not to engage in the conversation, a designated play area will be available for their enjoyment.
Open Energy, a small team as part of Open Newtown, is spearheading the organization of the Climate Conversation event. Funded through the National Lottery Community Fund, Open Energy aims to support members of the community in saving money on their energy bills and making their homes more comfortable to live in.
