In a shocking act of vandalism, the home of a highly disabled couple in Old Kerry Road, Newtown, was targeted not once but twice in December, leaving them in a dire situation.

Teresa Bielar and her husband Jeff, both dealing with significant health challenges, fell victim to a malicious individual armed with a hammer, who smashed nearly all of their front windows.

The severity of the situation has been exacerbated by freezing temperatures and the discovery of rot in the window frames, which has led to an insurance setback.

The couple, both pensioners with serious health issues, now faces a daunting financial burden. Despite their insurance coverage from Halifax, the company has stated that due to the pre-existing rot, they will only make a minimal payment towards replacing the glass.

The couple received quotes of around £16,000 to replace the entire windows, a cost they cannot afford.

Teresa Bielar, visibly distressed by the events, described the vandalism as "totally evil."

Dyfed-Powys Police have initiated an investigation into the criminal damage, with the incidents reported on December 1 and December 4. The perpetrator, described as riding a black electric bicycle, remains at large.

In an effort to alleviate the financial burden on the Bielar family, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up, seeking to raise the £16,000 needed for window replacement. The campaign, titled "Windows Broken by Vicious Vandal," can be accessed at https://www.gofundme.com/f/windows-broken-by-vicious-vandal.

On the GoFundMe page, the couple shared the harrowing details of the attacks, highlighting their health struggles and the inability to cover the substantial repair costs. The campaign provides an opportunity for the community to come together and support a fellow resident in need.

As the investigation continues, Dyfed-Powys Police are urging anyone with information, or those with relevant doorbell or dashcam footage, to come forward. The incident reference number is DP-23001227590, and reports can be made online at https://orlo.uk/I1Gda, via email at [email protected], or by calling 101.
