A local housing association has hit back at local rumours that their new development, Plas Melinydd or Millers Place has been sold to Birmingham City Council.

The housing development, which is being built by Mid Wales Properties for Barcud, the region's housing association is situated on the former site of Travis Perkins and consists of 32 one and two bedroom flats and 8 one bedroom flats.

The development is soon to be completed but the local rumour mill has indicated that the development has been sold to Birmingham City Council. However, All About Newtown has reached out to Barcud who have confirmed that the scheme has not been sold.

In a statement, Head of Development for Barcud, Alex Dawson said:

"I can confirm, unequivocally, that Barcud are not disposing of this scheme – whether to Birmingham City Council, Wolverhampton Council or indeed any other council or party. Barcud has developed this property to continue its investment programme in Mid Wales and to produce the highest quality of schemes for local people."

"Homes will be allocated through the housing register in the usual way."

All social housing in Powys is offered to people through one Common Housing Register (CHR) and an easy-to-understand Common Allocations Scheme (CAS) which is used to agree the allocation of both council and housing association homes.
