Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council has announced that it will once again host the November Remembrance commemorations on behalf of the community, paying tribute to the sacrifices made by our nation's brave heroes.

In 2023, the Town Council has scheduled two significant ceremonies to take place on Saturday, November 11th, and Sunday, November 12th.

On Saturday, November 11th, which is Armistice Day, a brief yet poignant ceremony will be held at Newtown Cenotaph at 11 am.

This ceremony will be attended by the Mayor, Councillors, and members of our entire community. Primary school students from Newtown will also be invited to attend, with the option to lay wreaths in remembrance.

On Sunday, November 12th, known as Remembrance Sunday, will be marked by a civic remembrance parade and ceremony.

The parade will assemble at 10:30 am in Broad Street and then proceed to the Newtown Cenotaph, where the ceremony will commence at 11 am. In response to valuable feedback received from the Royal British Legion and its Chaplain, the sacred element of the proceedings, previously conducted at the Baptist Church, will now be incorporated into the 11 am ceremony.

For those wishing to attend a church service earlier in the morning, All Saints Church in Penygloddfa will provide an opportunity for worship. Road closures have been requested for both days.

Both ceremonies will be broadcast over a public address system and will also be live-streamed on the internet for the benefit of those unable to attend in person.

The town council extends a warm invitation to everyone, whether attending in person or virtually, to join us in these events as we collectively demonstrate our unwavering respect for our heroes.

Further detailed timetables for both events will be provided separately at the beginning of November.
