A man from Newtown has pleaded guilty to two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and faces a lengthy custodial sentence.

Charles Pears appeared at Mold Crown Court on Friday and denied that he attempted to murder Sigrid Menzel and Jeffrey Bielar on November 23.

However, the alternative pleas were acceptable to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Pears' sentencing has been adjourned until May 5 and Judge Rhys Rowlands ordered a full pre-sentence report, stating that a lengthy custodial sentence is inevitable.

He also reminded Pears that he will receive credit for pleading guilty.
