Join the meeting on Microsoft Teams »Town Councillors are set to add an additional £2,000 to their annual budget to support the addition of a Pride presence at the 2023 carnival.
Tonight town councillors will discuss a proposal from Cllr Tracy Owen, Cllr Jack Griffin Lewis and Youth Rep, Gemma Wallis in supporting a new Pride presence at the 2023 Newtown Carnival.
The request, which was debated back in October and deferred to gather costs, would cost around £2,000 to put on, with the majority of costs being used for a marquee.
The paper also suggests decoration ideas for the marquee and float.
In October it was reported that Cllr Lewis said:
"The LGBT community feel under represented in Newtown."
"I'm very supportive of this. I would like to have something like this in the town."
The first ever Powys Pride event was held earlier this year in Llandrindod Wells and is an annual celebration of and by the LGBTQIA+ community across all of Powys.
