This nationwide initiative, now in its eleventh year in the UK, was first introduced by American Express in 2010 in the United States. Proudly supporting the cause as the Principal Supporter, American Express continues to champion small businesses, encouraging millions to 'shop small' and celebrate the unique contributions of local enterprises.

Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council has joined this cause by offering free parking on Saturday at Back Lane Car park, providing an added incentive for residents to embrace the charm of local businesses.

Russell George MS, Member of the Senedd for Montgomeryshire is urging the community to come together and support the county's small and independent businesses.

Small Business Saturday is more than just a day; it's a grassroots campaign that emphasizes the success of small businesses and urges consumers to prioritize local enterprises. Taking place on the first Saturday in December each year, this campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses, fostering ongoing support from the community.

Russell George expressed his enthusiasm for the campaign, stating, "Small Business Saturday is a wonderful opportunity to champion the key role played by small firms across Powys' high streets. As the retail market changes, I am encouraging people across Montgomeryshire to join me on December 2nd in pledging to shop locally to support the independent businesses we all know and love."

With the retail landscape evolving, this campaign serves as a reminder of the crucial role small businesses play in the heart of communities. Local high streets act as more than just places of commerce; they are meeting points for friends and families, supporting local employment and contributing to the unique character of each community.
