Town Councillors will tonight examine a report on the recently held Tidy Newtown Week, with the overall event hailed as a 'resounding success'.

Tidy Newtown Week, which took place between September 26th to September 30th, was organised by the Town Council with help from partners such as Keep Wales Tidy and Powys County Council and saw volunteers and partners taking to the streets to litter pick and tidy up our town.

Tonight, town councillors as part of the Economy & Environment Committee will consider a report showcasing areas which worked well, areas for improvement and potential future expansion.

Overall, there are several areas which worked well. These include:

• More focus on other areas of the town due to the length of the event
• Involvement of local schools
• The locating of skips in areas of high waste accumulation
• Collaboration with key partners
• Hosting an event on Saturday which allowed for a wider range of participants

The report also includes areas for improvement. These areas included more time was needed in certain areas to complete the cleanups, skip availibity and event timings.

On the potential expansion of the scheme, the report states:

"Tidy Newtown achieved resounding success, and it was inspiring to witness the active participation of schools and volunteers. Education played a pivotal role in the event's success, particularly during Saturday's educational workshops and activities."

"Looking forward, there's scope to see the event expand, with the possibility of adding an additional occasion to the calendar during the town's peak outdoor season in the summer. The aspiration is for 'Tidy Newtown' to evolve beyond being just an event, transforming into a permanent presence within the town."
