Residents and businesses in the Kerry area are being encouraged to participate in a new initiative by Openreach that could provide over 500 properties with access to ultrafast broadband.

Openreach has notified Powys County Council that the project's implementation may be at risk unless more people in the village apply for the UK Government Gigabit Vouchers.

The vouchers will be utilized to finance the extension of Openreach's new fiber network.

Potential participants in the Openreach scheme can find further details on the company's website: https://www.openreach.com/news/kerry-risks-missing-out-on-ultrafast-broadband/

To verify eligibility, residents and businesses in the Kerry area can enter their postcode on Openreach's Connect My Community website: https://www.openreach.com/connectmycommunity

Qualified participants can avail of the UK Government Gigabit Vouchers without incurring any cost.

However, they will be required to subscribe to a full fiber service from a provider of their choice for at least 12 months once the new network becomes accessible and confirm their connectivity.

Cllr Jake Berriman, Cabinet Member for a Connected Powys at Powys County Council, expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity, stating:

"This is an exceptional chance for homes and businesses in the Kerry area to gain access to a faster full fiber network, often only available in more urban locations. While 514 properties in Kerry are eligible, Openreach can only establish connections if enough individuals sign up and commit their vouchers to the scheme."
