New Year's Eve celebrations in Newtown could be dampened by severe weather warnings for wind and rain in Wales.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain, which will be in effect from 10am to 6pm on December 30. This warning could lead to possible flooding and transport disruption across the region.

In addition to heavy rain, a yellow warning for strong gusts of wind has also been issued, and will be in place from 11am on Saturday until 3am on Sunday, December 31.

This could result in delays to road, rail, air, and ferry transport. Coastal routes, sea fronts, and coastal communities are especially at risk of spray and large waves. Bus and train services may also be affected, with some journeys expected to take longer.

Furthermore, short term power outages and other service disruptions are possible, and high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges may face delays.

The storm system, not yet officially named by the Met Office, is forecasted to bring severe weather warnings to England and Northern Ireland, along with heavy snow to parts of Scotland.

These warnings come shortly after Storm Gerrit hit the UK, causing damage to electricity networks in certain areas due to high winds, heavy rain, and snow.

As Newtown prepares to welcome the new year, residents are advised to stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary precautions.
