Newtown residents are set to trade ice for raincoats as the cold weather makes way for milder conditions in Wales.

According to weather forecasts, the weekend and the following week will bring wet and windy weather to the region. A yellow weather warning for strong winds has been issued for the whole of Wales beginning on Sunday evening.

This warning indicates that there may be potential disruptions due to strong winds. Additionally, a second yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for most of Wales, with heavy downpours expected on Sunday evening and Monday.

The forecaster predicts that the heaviest rain will fall on Sunday, with 30mm to 50mm of rain expected across the area.

In some higher regions, there is a possibility of reaching peaks of 80mm to 100mm.

The Met Office's Deputy Chief Meteorologist, David Hayter, stated that while conditions will remain cold on Friday, a change in weather type is on the way. He mentioned that the change will initially be relatively mild, with a dry Friday and a start to Saturday for most parts of the UK. However, the influence of the Atlantic will introduce wet and windy conditions, with a deep low-pressure system approaching from the west on Sunday.

"While detail is still being worked out, we expect windy weather for many and some heavy rain in the west," said Hayter.

The Met Office will continue to monitor and update the warnings accordingly.
