Police investigating violent assault

Dyfed-Powys Police have launched an investigation into a violent assault that took place on Frankwell Street in Newtown at approximately 5:50 pm on Friday, June 9th, 2023.

Dyfed-Powys Police have launched an investigation into a violent assault that took place on Frankwell Street in Newtown at approximately 5:50 pm on Friday, June 9th, 2023.

The incident has left a 41-year-old man in a critical condition, while a 51-year-old man sustained injuries that did not require hospital treatment.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, swiftly responded to the scene to provide urgent medical attention to the critically injured victim.

The 41-year-old man was promptly airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he is currently being treated for his injuries under intensive care. The nature and extent of the injuries sustained by the victim have not been disclosed by the authorities.

In connection with the assault, Dyfed-Powys Police apprehended a 20-year-old man on suspicion of carrying out the attack. The individual was subsequently arrested and is presently in police custody, assisting officers with their inquiries.

At this stage, the police have not released any information regarding the motive or the relationship between the suspect and the victims.

Authorities have assured the public that they are not actively seeking any additional individuals in relation to the incident, suggesting that they believe the arrested suspect to be the sole perpetrator. However, the investigation remains ongoing, with officers gathering evidence and conducting interviews to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the assault.
