Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council has announced that the engineers have successfully repaired the chimes of our iconic Town Clock, and it is now fully operational once again.
As we reported three weeks ago, the Town Clock had been temporarily silenced due to a recent glitch.
The announcement that the clock is fixed, was met with excitement and joy from the residents of Newtown, who had eagerly awaited the return of the familiar sound that marked the passage of time.
This iconic timepiece, originally built to keep the town's workers punctual, has over time become an integral symbol of Newtown. The clock is nestled within the Clock Tower, a structure designed by Wood & Kendrick of Birmingham and erected in honour of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1900.
The clock itself was a generous gift to the people of Newtown during the same year. It was funded by Sarah Brisco, a descendent of the Pryce family and owner of Newtown Hall.
We've missed it, and we're sure you have too!
